Construction has officially started on the Margalla Enclave–Park Road underpass in Islamabad, a key infrastructure project designed to improve traffic flow along one of the city’s busiest corridors. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated work on the new underpass near Margalla Enclave, as part of ongoing efforts to modernize the city’s road network and reduce congestion.

New Traffic Management Plan in Effect

To maintain traffic movement while construction continues, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has issued a detailed traffic diversion plan for commuters:

Rawal Dam Chowk to Tramri: Traffic will be rerouted via NIH Road and Mohra Noor before merging back onto Park Road.

Tramri to Rawal Dam Chowk: Vehicles will be diverted near Chai Khana, moving through CDA Nursery and along two temporary roads laid beside the iron grill to rejoin Park Road

Authorities have warned that Park Road traffic may experience delays, especially during peak hours, and have advised motorists to allow an extra 20–30 minutes for travel to avoid inconvenience.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

To help ease congestion, commuters are encouraged to consider alternate routes such as:

Traffic police personnel have been deployed throughout the area to manage the flow and assist drivers as needed.

What This Means for Daily Commuters?

While construction work on the underpass is underway, motorists should remain attentive to traffic signs and instructions from on-ground officers. Planning ahead and using recommended detours can significantly reduce delays during rush hours.

This underpass project is part of a broader effort to enhance Islamabad’s transportation infrastructure and improve connectivity for daily commuters across the capital.
